Having said that, today I seem to be focusing on speed.

What is the compelling reason for this ‘need for speed’? What has changed in our lives over the last few years that has made us need to go faster in everything we do?
Is it because we want to do so much that we need to do everything quicker, just to have enough time to fit it all in?
Or, is it because we want to have so much, that it becomes necessary to work more to afford those things, thus taking away more of our free time.

By being in such a hurry we are becoming less considerate, and more aggressive.
I mean really, is one car length, or one shopping cart closer to the checkout, going to enhance your life by any stretch of the imagination?
When did fast become so necessary? Let’s try this:
Is it better to be really great at something, or OK at everything? Would you rather have a few excellent things, or a lot of average ones? Tough questions in today’s society.
I remember when I would wait for a new album (that’s a CD in old speak) from a favorite artist to come out. Not only was the anticipation part of the package, but depending on the artist, a promise that damn near every track, would be worth the wait.
Today, I feel lucky if two or three tracks are any good. The rush to market, and their fear of not being in the public eye have replaced making the music.
I guess what I’m saying is, less and less am I buying into rushing to mediocrity.

I’m afraid we all listen far too much to others telling us what we should be doing, rather than listening to ourselves, telling us what we want to be doing.
Don’t miss the passion of something that really makes you excited, for the things you don’t have the time to enjoy.

I’ve really become a believer in the old, corny saying, “it’s the journey, not the destination”. I sure hate being in a hurry.

So, feel free to wish me a Happy Birthday, I’ll be the one you cut in front of as you’re rushing to get to work.

Over the weekend an NFL player accidentally shot himself in the leg while out with friends at a night club. Now, before you say “I’m not into football”, or “I heard about that and the player is the stereotypical self destructing, egotistical, referring to himself in the third person athlete that we’re all turned off by”.  Let me explain why I even felt the need to bring this up.

No one said WHY?

I myself do enjoy sports, and although not a fanatic, I like watching the games when I can. I even enjoy the ESPN type recap shows if I want to see what’s been going on.

So, I was inundated throughout the weekend with this guys story, either through sports programs, ticker tape streams on the bottom of my screen, or even occasionally on the regular local news programs (there are only so many clips about turkeys, so it was inevitable they would be grasping for news on the holiday weekend).

But no one said WHY?

Oh yes, I heard over and over he had suffered no major damage, no ligaments or tendons had been hurt, his super bowl contending team would have to suck it up in his absence, but I never once heard why he was carrying a gun in a nightclub filled with people. In fact now that I think about it, I don’t even recall hearing how he ended up shooting himself.

This is why I wonder if maybe we, as society, possibly just don’t get it anymore?

Shouldn’t we be more concerned with the fact that he had a gun (no permit withstanding), was in a public place, and actually fired it, than with how he’s doing or how his team will fare without him?

I don’t know, call me crazy, but I was actually thinking how devastating it would have been if it was some innocent person rather than him who had been shot. I mean get real folks, he could have gotten a game or two suspension. Where would we be then?

It seems, today we tend to focus on what we don’t have, rather than on what we do.
